Building Fences, Not Walls: Next Level Conversation on Boundaries – 2.0
Back by popular demand, the DC Bar LAP will dive deeper into the topic of boundaries. On July 12, 2022, we started the conversation on boundaries, what they are, why they are essential, and how to begin setting boundaries. Unfortunately, like a muscle, boundaries are something we must constantly work on. The unrelenting demands of daily life can take a toll on our energy and mood. We feel the weight of others’ expectations and are impacted by the problems and emotions of those around us. We may say “yes” to too many requests despite not having enough bandwidth or resources. During difficult times our limits often change, and our energy ebbs more than it flows. If we even recognize that we need to adjust our boundaries, we have trouble doing it even when we know that identifying our needs and setting healthy boundaries with people in our lives is integral to maintaining our well-being.
Creating healthy boundaries is empowering yet also difficult and even frightening for many of us. How do we know if a boundary is healthy . . . or not? How do we manage the feelings other people may have in response to our boundary? Please join us as we explore why, when, and how to set firm, clear boundaries to help you take care of yourself, find a sense of control, and enhance your emotional well-being.
